Dr Hannes Basson
Dr Hannes Basson graduated with an M.B.ChB. at the University of the Orange Free State, South Africa, in 1985. He specialised as a general surgeon and obtained the M.Med (Surgery) degree at the University of the Orange Free State, South Africa, in 1992. He entered private practice as a specialist surgeon at Sunninghill Hospital in Sandton, Johannesburg, South Africa in 1993 and worked there until 2002. He immigrated with his family to Australia and worked in the Department of General Surgery at Royal Perth Hospital in 2003. He obtained fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2004 and started to practice as a visiting medical specialist at Armadale Health Service with appointments at Galliers Private Hospital and the Mount Hospital. He was acting Director of Surgical Services at Armadale Health Service in 2005. He joined the Department of Surgery at Joondalup Health Campus in 2006 where he is currently the Head of Department of General Surgery.
Dr Basson did a course in laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair and gasless Nissen fundoplication in 1995 at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. He also attended a course in advanced laparoscopic skills at the Royal Adelaide Centre for laparoscopic surgery in Adelaide in 1998.
Dr Basson specialises in upper gastro-intestinal and laparoscopic surgery. He is a partner in Bariatric Medical integrated and has a keen interest in management of the metabolic syndrome and bariatric surgery.

Prof Paul Moroz
Professor Paul Moroz is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and is a Professor of Surgery at the University of Western Australia. Professor Moroz completed his training in General Surgery in Western Australia before undertaking post fellowship training at St George Hospital in Sydney in 2007 where he specialised in liver surgery and surgical oncology, focussing on the treatment of disseminated peritoneal cancers involving complicated upper and lower gastrointestinal surgery. Professor Moroz continues to practice in these fields in addition to providing a comprehensive General Surgical service at Joondalup Health Campus. Professor Moroz is the director of the Western Australian Peritonectomy Service which is now based at Joondalup Health Campus and continues his appointment as Professor of Surgery at the University of Western Australia and heads surgical teaching at Joondalup Health Campus
Professor Moroz has now extended his extensive GI surgical expertise and has undergone further training in laparoscopic gastric banding surgery and is fully credentialed to perform this procedure at Joondalup Health Campus for both public and private patients. Professor Moroz is now a member of Joondalup Bariatric Service with Mr David Yong and Mr David Koong.
