When I meet with business people who are interested in creating a website, one of the questions that I ask them in our strategy session is "Are you interested in implementing a blog on your website?" However, this question is often met with confused silence because the majority of entrepreneurs don't even know what a blog is. More importantly, they have no idea why they would need one for their business website.
So, today I’m here to tell you: Every business should have a blog!
Why? Let me explain.
Many years ago, in the late twentieth century, when the World Wide Web was just a baby, a Swarthmore College student, Justin Hall, created the first blog—Links.net. It was 1994. Of course, at that time, they weren’t called blogs, and he just referred to it as his personal homepage.
Some years passed and by the beginning of the next century, there were around 50 million blogs around the world. At first, they were centered on people’s personal stories, but they very quickly became a significant tool for promoting politicians.
A number of mainstream media sites started their own blogs or teamed up with existing blogs to provide additional coverage and commentary during the mid-to-late 2000s.
In recent years, after many technological evolutions made blog writing very easy for everyone, it has become one of the most powerful tools for businesses to promote themselves around the world.
Just a few years ago, only very large companies had enough resources to tell their story in paid advertisements. But now, every business can tell their story using the powerful tool of blogging.
In the era of exponential information, everyone is seeking knowledge. And blogs are the perfect opportunity for you to share your professional expertise. A good blog will enhance your credibility by showing potential clients your professional skills.
The purpose of a blog is not simply to advertise your products or services! Of course you can sell through your blog sometimes, but more importantly, it is an excellent branding tool that requires minimal resources.
In fact, if you are reading this post, you are reading a blog that provides you with knowledge based on our expertise in building business web presence.
Good blogs for services and products consistently raise conversion rates and increase your ROI.
If you still doubt it, I invite you to take a look at this infographic and see the statistics regarding the influence of blogs on ROIs. It may also give you some new ideas about how to create and what to write about on your business blog.
If you have any questions about how to create your own business website and blog, we will be glad to offer you assistance in a free strategy session.
